Lighting Design Considerations              
Here are some things to keep in mind while you design the lighting for your home.

There are 3 basic types of lighting...

General Lighting
This covers an area with an overall illumination. Also known as ambient, this type of lighting basically replaces sunlight. This can be accomplished using wall or ceiling fixtures, such as recessed lighting and chandeliers.

Task Lighting
This is used to accomplish special tasks, such as reading, writing, sewing, and any other task that requires good lighting to prevent eyestrain. Normally you would want to use track lighting and portable lamps.

Accent Lighting
This is used to add a decorative flare to a room. Spotlighting houseplants, paintings, and other wall hangings is typically the function for this type of lighting. Track lighting, recessed lighting, and wall fixtures are commonly used for this. It is important to remember that the accent lighting needs to be three times as bright as the general lighting of the room to be effective.

 

Kitchen Care                       

People often deteriorate the finish on their kitchen cabinets because they do not know how to properly care for them. Here are some easy steps you can take that will ensure that you enjoy the look of your cabinets for years to come.

Standard Wood Finish
To clean a dirty spot on your cabinets, simply clean it with a damp cloth and some dish soap. Follow up with another clean damp cloth and then dry. Also, a light waxing every now and again would be very helpful. Avoid using detergents, oily polishes, and surface or glass cleaner.

Laminate
Use a clean damp cloth and water to clean your laminate cabinets. Do not use abrasive cleaning pads and cleaners on stains. Instead, clean stained areas with a tile cleaner and a clean cloth.

High-Gloss Finish
Use dish soap and a clean damp cloth to clean your high-gloss cabinets. Never use a wax cleaner as that will cause discoloration.
